Leon County Jail

Clothing

Interview with Alex and Javier

JM: What types of clothes were most common?
Alex: Navy blue uniforms were most common. Other common clothes were the black and white striped uniforms, brown ones, and orange ones.
Javier: You are given Blue uniforms twice a week and if you are a trustee they are either tan or stripes everyday. You can purchase white t-shirts, boxers, thermals and shoes off the canteen list if you choose to.

JM: Did you have a set uniform? What did it look like?
Alex: I initially wore a navy blue uniform. When I became a trustee, I wore a black and white striped uniform.
Javier: The uniforms were basically V-neck pajamas. They werent uncomfortable but they could be a little thin for the cold temperatures in jail.

JM: Were there any assigned clothes in high demand that an inmate should look for when getting clothing assigned?
Alex: Inmates should ask for clean clothes and slippers. It was easy to get some type of foot fungus if they were given the wrong pair of slippers.
Javier: No

JM: Was the clothing different between men and women?
Alex: The clothing was the same for both sexes.
Javier: Only in color. The women wore beige uniforms most men wore blue.
